ELIGIBILITY

Students (boys and girls) from grades 5 to 12 who attend an ACSIEC school (Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes) as well as staff from these same schools. Non-member schools are also eligible to compete but must pay a $100 registration fee.

WHAT IS NEEDED

10 foot basketball rim, basketball, internet and a computer with a camera. If internet access is not available other arrangements can be made.

RULES

  • There will be ten divisions.
  • The divisions will be grade 5/6 girls, grade 5/6 boys, grade 7/8 girls, grade 7/8 boys, grade 9/10 girls, grade 9/10 boys, grade 11/12 girls, grade 11/12 boys, female administration/staff and male administration/staff.
  • All competitors will shoot on a 10 foot rim.
  • Grade 5/6 will shoot from a 12 foot free throw line and grade 7-12 and staff will shoot from a 15 foot free throw line (this is regulation).
  • Students in Grade 5-8 need to be behind the free throw line when they shoot the ball but may cross the line when they land as long as they are still touching the line with at least one foot. Students in Grade 9-12 and staff need to land behind the line when they shoot (normal regulation rule).
  • Grade 5/6 will use a size 5,6 or 7 basketball. Grade 7-12 and staff will use a size 6 or 7 basketball.
  • Students will have three attempts to shoot 25 shots and all three scores will be submitted.
  • In the preliminary round the 3 attempts must be attempted during the week assigned to your division and must be submitted by 4:00PM on the Friday at the end of the week.
  • At the end of the time allotted to submit, the top 8 scores will be entered into the playoffs.
  • Playoffs will involve quarterfinals, semifinals and finals with 1 playing 8, 2 playing 7, 3 playing 6 and 5 playing 4.
  • Playoffs will involve students being on zoom (this also may be done over the phone if internet is unavailable) so they will be shooting at the same time and will be able to see (or hear) the other student. They will each get 25 shots in grade 7-12 and 15 shots in grade 5/6 and the higher score will win. The players (coaches) will arrange a time for each match.
  • Students will have 10 minutes to complete the shots.
  • Each playoff matchup will be a 2 out of 3 format. The first student to win 2 games will advance.
  • If a game is tied each student will get five more shots with the higher score being declared the winner (2 minute time frame).
  • If still tied after the extra shots, another set of five will be shot and this will continue until there is a winner.

AWARDS

There will be awards for the winner of each division.

COST

  • No cost for ACSI schools.
  • $100 per school for non-ACSI schools.
