Peoples Christian Academy is immediately seeking a full-time, long-term occasional Middle and Senior School Music Teacher (Grades 6-8 Band, Gr. 6-7 Vocal, and Gr. 9 Instrumental Music) for the school year to June 2025, inclusive.

SPIRITUAL QUALIFICATIONS
Each employee at PCA must have received Jesus Christ as one’s personal Saviour and believe that the Bible is God’s Word and standard for faith and daily living. The employee shall be a Christian role model in attitude, speech, and actions towards others. Therefore, the candidate shall:
  • be in wholehearted agreement with the PCA Statement of Faith and Statement of Core Family Values and be a member in good standing at a local evangelical church that has a statement of faith in agreement with the PCA Statement of Faith and Statement of Core Family Values (https://www.peopleschristianacademy.ca/about)
  • Have the spiritual maturity, personal qualities and professional qualifications to serve the PCA community in the role in accordance with these requisite beliefs and values.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, CHARACTER, COMPETENCIES
  • Preference: Ontario Certified Teacher (OCT), Intermediate/Senior qualifications
  • Additional qualifications and/or certifications and/or graduate studies in Music advantageous
  • Ability to implement Growing Success (2010) and Ministry of Education Curriculum expectations
  • Ability to read music (e.g. conductor’s score and vocal score)
  • Ability to teach and lead an ensemble of various band instruments and vocal groups
  • Basic to intermediate piano background and playing experience (e.g. play music to accompany vocal students)
  • Knowledge of theory and basic music history
  • Intermediate knowledge of vocal technique and how to play, care for and maintain various band instruments
  • Able to foster an organized, calm and physically safe environment for students and their instruments (e.g. teaching and monitoring proper and safe use of instruments at all times)
  • Able to cultivate a respectful, kind, and encouraging environment and community for students to feel emotionally safe and comfortable when performing in front of each other
  • Lead, prepare and conduct the extra-curricular school choir for special events/occasions and concerts
  • Communicate and collaborate with the strings teacher to plan and set curriculum
  • Assist strings teacher in planning, preparing and coordinating the Christmas and spring concerts
  • Strong classroom and behavioural management skills, and ability to connect with “tweens” and teenagers
  • Systematic planning and assessment ability
  • Flexible and service-oriented
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and passion for the profession
  • Collaborative attitude and culturally proficient
